Offered with brief comments.

Trump has gone to war with the media. As the graph below documents “the war” has significantly increased viewership. It doesn’t exactly give TV networks a reason to stop shooting. Also note that Fox News dwarfs the other networks – more viewers than CNN and MSNBC combined.

I find it difficult to interpret the graph below. On the one hand, we have had levels of immigration (as a percentage share of the population) as high as we have currently – although not for 100 years. [Edited on 2/21/2017 to correct error] One the other hand we have 40 million people living here who were born in foreign lands. These are not 40 million babies who grew up under the American system. These are 40 million adults with fully formed social and political ideas. Just FYI.

  1. Mark Claytor says:

“Not unprecedented” numerically. Prior immigrations came from more culturally and religiously similar countries. At no time has there been the influx of foreigners with beliefs and values so antithetical to our Anglo-Saxon ethos.

  2. Edward says:

Does the 40 million represent the number of people emigrating here every year (as you say) OR the total number of foreign-born people currently living here (as the graph says)? Seems to me a big difference.

  3. Bill Brown says:

The 40kk is the total number of immigrants. The yellow line is percentage of total population. Also, food for thought – CNN and MSNBC are both liberal and together come close to FOX. Conservatives have only FOX.

  4. David L. Wood says:

It has never been correct for people of any background merely to come into the United States unvetted. When I went to Germany in 1950, I had to sign in, and every time I changed address in the two and a half years I was there, I had to re-register. That would have worked well in this country had a certain Party not wanted increased voters for themselves by handing out “free” sustenance to the new arrivals.
