The “thing” about “the melting pot.”

What “modern” liberals don’t understand about the conservative position on immigration is that conservatives want immigrants to become Americans. The most illustrious liberal leader wanted the same thing.

“…In a speech he gave in St. Louis in May 1916, (Franklin Delano) Roosevelt summed up his views on immigration in language that resonates today, a century later. “If the American has the right stuff in him, I care not a snap of my fingers whether he is Jew or Gentile, Catholic or Protestant,” he declared. (Today he would add “Mexican or Central American” – RF). “But unless the immigrant becomes in good faith an American and nothing else, then he is out of place in this country, and the sooner he leaves the better.” (It appears FDR was not a feminist or worried about the feelings of the LBGT community: he uses “him,” “he, ” no “her” or “she,” and definitely no “zir,” “zis,” “zim,” or “hir.” – RF).

Face it Progressive/Statist/Altruists, “multiculturalism” is a bust. I’m not saying the experiment was unworthy of “a try,” but it failed and America needs to move back to the tried and true expectation that immigrants become AMERICANS.

Liberal Time Magazine and the Financial Times “Person of the Year” had this to say about “multiculturalism.” German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s refugee policy has attracted praise from all over the world. She said this, “Multiculturalism leads to parallel societies and therefore remains a ‘life lie.’” Germany was the grand experiment in “multiculturalism” and Merkel was the principal investigator. At the conclusion of her vast experiment Merkel declared that multiculturalism in Germany had “utterly failed.”

And thanks to JP for sending the quote from FDR.

And, by the by, if you are interested in American immigration check out the following (and thanks to JM for sending this fascinating illustration to me). For the past 200 years this shows from where all of our immigrants have come – check out the number one country to immigrate to the USA since 1960!

    Fascinating map. Thanks.

Truly an interesting map. Legal immigration has always contributed to this country, and the immigrants assimilated and became citizen Americans. The borders should never have been “open” to illegal immigration. Because of the millions of people from other countries now here, deportation seems not efficiently possible. To solve the problem, Why not issue green cards to them today with the alternative of eventually applying for and obtaining citizenship of voluntarily returning to their original homelands. By announcing an end to the welfare (and free housing), education and medical care, those then who truly desired to assimilate and become citizens will do so. Of course, all those who have committed crimes must be deported.

Rush Limbaugh made, what I believe, is a fair and cogent suggestion. Allow them to chose to apply for legal citizenship but restrict the voting privilege for twenty years because of originally entering illegally. However, since the illegal immigration was the fault of the politicians who refused to enforce the restriction of entering illegally at the borders, those people did come even though it was against our immigration laws, then restriction of the voting privilege would be a restriction in keeping with the method they used to enter the US. I predict the Democrats would vehemently oppose such a ruling.
