NATO. Trump.

I still think NATO membership is in our national best interest. But like the trade agreements (I believe in free trade) I believe Mr. Trump is correct that the agreement can’t simply be “free.” It must also be fair. And the other NATO nations are letting the USA do the lion’s share of spending for defense of their homelands.

Note that Greece is second in %GDP spending compared to the USA. But, the Gross Domestic Product in Greece was worth 195.21 billion US dollars in 2015. So they spent $4.6 billion on defense. In the same year the US spent $598.5 billion.

Luxemboug has the highest GDP per capita in the world. Yet they contributed the least in %GDP spent on defense. Germany has the fourth highest GDP but is 16th on the list of percent contribution to defense.

The NATO Alliance requires member nations to spend 2% of their gross domestic product on defense. Mr. Trump doesn’t even need to “renegotiate.” He only needs them to do what they promised to do! Only 5 NATO nations meet their responsibility.

How else do you think they can fund their cradle-to-grave welfare states?

President-elect Trump just needs to circulate and discuss the contents of this graph. America and the world will eventually get it. Even the slow learners.

  2. I agree with Mr. Trump. There is no reason that the United States should pay the greatest amount of support for the UN and to defend countries without reimbursement. In fact, the UN Headquarters should not even be in the United States. Double in fact, I believe we would be better off enjoying our own sovereignty without subjecting any of our interests to UN scrutiny or influence.
