The last straw.

My friends, this is the ignoble end to which a “college education” has come.

It has finally happened. A professor, Michael Rectenwald, who is crusading against “political correctness” has been suspended. Why is that, ask you? Because, answer I, his colleagues complained about his “incivility.” This idiocy occurred at the prestigious New York University.

Rectenwald told the New York Post that he was forced on Wednesday to go on paid leave for the remainder of the semester. “They are actually pushing me out the door for having a different perspective.” The move probably originated from an interview he gave Heat Street. In the interview he called academia a mad house with “safe spaces.”

Rectenwald claimed that the current politically correct culture of trigger warnings, safe spaces and bias reporting have fomented a culture of hyper-protectionism, hyper-vigilance and self-surveillance. Importantly, and somewhat surprisingly, Rectenwald is a liberal studies professor ay NYU!

I am reminded of the speech Michael Douglas gives in his role as the president in the movie The American President. Importantly he plays a flaming liberal president in the movie. “America isn’t easy. America is advanced citizenship. You’ve gotta want it bad, ’cause it’s gonna put up a fight. It’s gonna say, ‘You want free speech? Let’s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who’s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours…’ Now show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms.

Again my friends you are witnessing the left’s assault on freedom of speech. Why would liberals finally assault free speech after espousing it for decades. They must do it. They have come to realize that their altruist plans for American society simply do not work and, therefore, must be forced down the throats of our citizenry as if we are recalcitrant children who refuse to take their medicine.

One Response to The last straw.

  1. To today’s liberals, “coercion” is their favorite concept. Their political correctness (PC) is being forcibly pushed at the US citizenry by the liberal Left.

For instance, the word “discrimination” is one of the major concepts to be altered. Dictionaries are important to preserve definition for accurate communication. The accepted and dictionary definition of discrimination “is to observe a difference; to distinguish accurately.” One of the major teachings of my generation (and generations before) was to discriminate between good and bad (evil) and to distinguish between honest and dishonest. What was “good” (positive) deserved respect, and the opposite deserved disrespect. Positive discrimination was to be learned, appreciated and applied carefully.

The disdain against the black race was equated to ”discrimination,” implying a negative association with the word. It wasn’t long after WW II before it began to be used with negative association to the differences of gender (sex), homosexuality and race. Later, it was disgust with radical Islamic terrorism and so-called Christian “white supremacy.” The negative connotation of the word and its incessant repetition in the media and by many minority groups have transformed its meaning to become a “dirty” word.

Political correctness is a distortion of thinking of the politically elite (‘liberal’) to accomplish their agenda of statism and central government control.
