If you were alive when Martin Luther King, Jr. worked to end segregation, when he gave his masterful speeches, when he literally gave his life, and when he succeeded, you would be appalled to learn what is happening on college campuses.
In one of his most famous quotes King said, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” Of course he was referring to white Americans judging black Americans by the color of their skin. Today he is rolling over in his grave as American universities are reestablishing SEGREGATION!

I am disgusted by the antics of college administrations, and that from someone who has been in academics for more than 40 years.
[From the Williams article] Hampshire College will offer some of its students what the school euphemistically calls “identity-based housing.” That’s segregated housing for students who—because of their race, culture, gender, or sexual orientation—have “historically experienced oppression.”
Few people that came to America suffered the hardships that Irish immigrants faced. Few people escaped the hardships that Jewish immigrants fled. And Chinese immigrants were treated unspeakably. I wonder if Hampshire College will offer Irish, Chinese, and Jewish students “identity-based housing.”
[From the Williams article] University of Connecticut administrators think more black men will graduate if they spend more time together. According to Campus Reform, they are building a new residence hall to facilitate just that.
Erik Hines, the faculty director for the program, said the learning community “is a space for African-American men to … come together and validate their experiences that they may have on campus. … It’s also a space where they can have conversation and also talk with individuals who come from the same background who share the same experience.” By the way, Hampshire College and the University of Connecticut are not alone in promoting racially segregated student housing.
Then there’s an effort for racial segregation in classes. Moraine Valley Community College attempted it in a class titled “College: Changes, Challenges, Choices.” It mandated that some class sections be “limited to African-American students.” The college defended racially segregated classes by saying they make students “feel comfortable.” After facing massive national notoriety, the college just recently abandoned its racial segregation agenda.
I have written previously about the current insanity on college campuses. But in my wildest imaginings as a professor I never thought I would see college catalogues offering “Lady Gaga and the Sociology of the Fame” (University of South Carolina) or “Kayne vs. Everybody” (Georgia State University), or worst of all “The Sociology of Miley Cyrus: Race, Class, Gender and Media” (Skidmore College).
My friends, I truly wonder whether or not America can survive the insane notions of Progressive/Statist/Altruists.
