Global warming catastrophes – still waiting!

Doomsday scenarios of all sorts have been front and center among the global warming alarmists. I like to simplify the claims in two ways. First is the quote from the movie, Ghostbusters, in the scene when they were brought before the Mayor of New York:

“What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor! Real wrath of God type-stuff. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes … The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria!”

The second is to show the list of claims of the horrors that are occurring or soon will occur. These are listed in the footnote (go to the listed website if you actually wish to read some of these ludicrous claims). My favorite is still the “attack of the killer jellyfish.” I think I saw that movie in the 1950s about the same time as the movie, “Attack of the 50-foot woman.”

But hope springs eternal. The alarmists have been out in force claiming:

Climate change: 2015 will be the hottest year on record ‘by a mile’, experts say

They seem to forget that there are data clearly refuting this claim like so many other of their claims. I know my readers can interpret a graph. Excellent. Interpret these (and forget “by a mile or even an inch” – is the basic tenet sound that “2015 will be the hottest year on record”):

The next three months would need to be devastatingly HOT to even get close to the record, let alone surpass it “by a mile.”

Here are a few other disappointments for the alarmists.

The Geneva-Switzerland based International Federation of the Red Cross recently released its 2014 Natural Disaster Report. They are a trustworthy group. Here are a few of the top items.

  1. Catastrophe losses from natural disasters were below average globally in 2014. Economic losses were 37 percent below the ten-year average.

  2. A total of 8186 people died in 2014 because of natural disasters. This number of deaths from natural disasters, while tragic, was almost 90 percent under the 10-year average.

  3. According to the Red Cross data, although deaths were far fewer as noted above, many of the deaths were due to cold, with 505 alone occurring in one country – Peru! Among the top disasters were brutal winters in the USA and Japan – hardly what one would expect from “global warming.”

  4. Disasters occurred in ninety-four countries. There were a total of 317 floods, earthquakes, forest fires, cyclones and a number of other nature events with deaths. But that was the lowest number in 10 years.

  5. The 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season marked the ninth consecutive year in which the U.S. did not sustain a major Category 3+ hurricane that made landfall, which extends the all-time record by another year. It was also the quietest season in terms of named storms since 1997.

  6. For the third consecutive year, tornado season in the United States was one of the least active since Doppler radar began being deployed in the early 1990s.

My friends, these global warming fiends are literally waiting for hundreds of thousands of men, women and children to be killed in cataclysms so they can finally say, “I told you so!”

You may be interested in this Congressional testimony. The head of the Sierra Club cannot make a cogent argument. He reminds me of a child who, during an argument with a parent, responds to all questions with the answer, “because.” (And, by the by, Ted Cruz is a pretty good lawyer!)

And thanks to HP for forwarding this to me.

  1. Agent Orange says:

I’m surprised they didn’t predict attacks from mega-piranhas!

  2. trailbee says:

I once was in a class to learn how to tutor. What I learned in there was very useful: don’t push too hard. The overkill will kill your intention and make me/you look rather stupid. It can also point out very clearly that one is trying too hard. (Just because someone needs tutoring in one subject, does not mean she/he is deficient in others.) This Warmlist just reminded me of an uncomfortable moment when I was trying too hard to make my audience laugh. They dug their heels in. It was the best lesson I could have gotten. May I say the above list is a little too long? It’s called overkill and thanks for posting it. The author should be cringing 🙂
